CocktailZ: sixty seconds behind a tropical bar
Coconuts, ice cubes, kiwis, pineapples, strawberries and little paper umbrellas: in CocktailZ, these are your playing pieces. You swap them two at a time on a 9 by 9 grid to make groups of three or more identical ingredients, and every ingredient that disappears earns 100 points.
A game lasts just one minute. That is short, but a lot happens: a cocktail recipe to complete on the left, a gauge to fill at the bottom, and a magic shaker to create. Here is how to make the most of those sixty seconds.
A beach bar under the palm trees
The setting feels like a holiday: large palm leaves frame the board, and each ingredient is drawn with care, from bright red strawberries to bluish ice cubes. On the left of the screen, an empty glass waits for its order. Six cocktails may be requested: Coco Colada, Red Lagoon, Fruit Fizz, Paradise Punch, Hawaiian Sunset and Pineappletini.
Don’t worry, no alcohol is served here: the only thing that goes to your head is a big score. The game follows the formula made famous by Bejeweled and Candy Crush, and adds these recipes to give you a small goal at every moment.
Your first seconds at the counter
- Click on the welcome screen to start: the one-minute timer begins right away.
- Drag an ingredient towards its neighbour, left, right, up or down. The two pieces trade places.
- The swap only counts if it makes a line of at least three matching ingredients. Otherwise, both pieces slide back.
- Matched ingredients vanish, the ones above drop down and new ones arrive from the top. Sometimes this fall creates new groups without any effort from you.
- Not sure what to do? After five seconds without a move, a white bar appears between two ingredients to show you a possible swap.
Recipes, the real secret to a high score
Each recipe asks for four different ingredients, five of each. Below the cocktail shown on the left, a small counter tells you how many are still missing. Whenever you clear a requested ingredient, it flies over to the recipe and the counter goes down.
When all four counters reach zero, the cocktail is served: +1,000 points at once, with a little firework. The glass on the left keeps count of the recipes you have finished, and a new order appears after a short pause.
To put it simply: one recipe is worth as much as ten ordinary ingredients. So it pays to glance to the left before every move and, when two moves look equal, to choose the one that helps the order.
Sparkling ingredients and the magic shaker
Line up four identical ingredients: one of them stays on the grid with a glowing halo. When it later disappears in a group, it also blows up the eight squares around it.
Line up five or more: you get a silver shaker. Swap it with any neighbour, with no need to make a group, and every ingredient of that neighbour’s kind leaves the grid. So pick the most common neighbour, or the one your recipe needs.
Each special piece you create adds 100 points. And if time runs out while shakers or sparkling ingredients are still on the board, nothing is wasted: the game announces a last blast and sets them all off, points included.
The Super Wave of freshness
At the bottom of the screen, a long gauge fills a little with every ingredient you clear, about 2% each time. But it slowly drains as soon as you slow down, so you need to keep the moves coming to see it rise.
Once it is full, the Super Wave rolls in. The timer stops during the effect, and a wave sweeps away 20 random ingredients. They earn their usual points and also count towards the current recipe. It is the best way to win a few extra seconds of play.
Habits of a busy bartender
- Look at the bottom of the grid first: a group made low down shakes up the whole column and often triggers free chains.
- Don’t hunt for the perfect move: with only one minute, a decent move played now beats a brilliant one found too late.
- Save the shaker for the moment it touches the most common ingredient on the board.
- If no swap is possible, don’t worry: the game clears a few ingredients by itself to get things moving again.
After the last drop
Reach 30,000 points and the wheel of fortune opens for you: each spin may give you a card to stick in your Goobox album. Your score then joins the friends’ table shown just below the game, in its “Week” or “All-Time” version. Has a friend beaten you? The “Challenge Friends!” button sends them an invitation to do better than you.
Frequently asked questions
- How long does a game of CocktailZ last?
- One minute. The timer only pauses during the Super Wave, which gives you a few extra moments.
- How many points is a finished cocktail worth?
- 1,000 points. Each recipe needs five of four different ingredients, so twenty ingredients in all.
- How do I get the shaker?
- Line up five or more identical ingredients. Then swap it with a neighbour to clear every ingredient of that kind from the grid.
- The bottom gauge goes down by itself. Is that normal?
- Yes. It drops slowly when you are not playing. Make your moves quickly to fill it and trigger the Super Wave.
- What happens to my special pieces when time is up?
- They go off automatically in the last blast, and the ingredients they take with them count towards your score.

Ingredienti scintillanti e shaker magico
Ogni pezzo speciale creato aggiunge 100 punti.
